Northwest Community College

Mobile Trades Training

Northwest Community College recognized that a variety of trades being offered by the college were being offered exclusively in Terrace and Prince Rupert. This centralized delivery model was not meeting the needs of the people of the northwest region.

Through the Softwood Industry Community Economic Adjustment Initiative the Village of Kitselas, in partnership with NWCC, was able to purchase mobile trades training equipment. This equipment will enable instructors to deliver trades training within each community in the region.

This unique initiative combines training with community development. In the Spring of 2008, the mobile trades training unit will be available to communities in the Nass Valley and will be available to the communities of Haida Gwa'ii in the summer of 2008.

This new way of delivering education will encourage apprenticeship and employment opportunities for people in the area, including those living in remote, First Nations villages.
